Sudden wing in chrysalis goop, infant
side step and wide pupil of all
that can be, sudden word fallen
of a wrinkled lip that heals
me, sudden fumble from nest,
sudden rain on cholla skin, the drastic quench—
stop waiting for the sudden thing
and be it, please give (me)
a sudden light, sudden breath
of all breaths to make me feel beneath
bottom ocean, sky above sky
in the curl of my hand
and gift of ink
to see a thing
all of a sudden, the earth
everything at once what once
wasn’t, in other words
put light on a dream
its a seed
that came buried in heart
chalky and quiet, give it
some light,
just this once
just to see.
